Order
Form for Day-Old Chicks
- Order early for a
limited number of hatches each spring. Some customers place their
orders several months in advance to avoid disappointment.
- There is no catalog, just this website. To place an
order print the Order Form and fill-in the information requested.
Send the Order Form, with your payment to the address printed near the
bottom of it. The “Price” per chick is listed on the
Order Form. Money Orders and personal checks are accepted –
no PayPal or credit/debit cards.
- Chicks are sold as
Straight Run (not sexed) only. Although some big commercial hatcheries
employ specialists that “vent sex” day-old chicks,
ChickHatchery.com doesn’t have that ability.
- The quantity should add
up to either 25 or 50 chicks on the Order Form. A minimum
of 25 chicks per box is required to have enough chicks together to provide
the warmth needed to keep them safe in the mail. If you order 50
chicks two boxes of 25 each will be taped together and sent to you.
- It is recommended that
you have the chicks sent to you, rather than picking them up at
ChickHatchery.com. The chicks are taken from the hatchers just a
few hours before they are sent in the mail. If enough don’t
hatch to fill a mail order it is postponed, but if you drive to pickup
your order and enough don’t hatch it could be a wasted trip.
Those wishing to pick up their chicks at ChickHatchery.com may do so
between 5 & 7pm on the Tuesday they are scheduled to be
available.
- The total number of
chicks per order may be a combination of any of the breeds/varieties
offered. There are only limits on the maximum number of
chicks of a variety available per order.
- There isn’t a
“waiting list”, since orders are seldom cancelled. If
you decide you don’t want the chicks, for whatever reason, they
may be donated to a youth poultry organization. No refund will be
made on cancelled orders, so please don’t place an order for
chicks unless you are sure you want them.
- Once your order is
received a hatch date will be scheduled and you will be notified by
email, so please include your email address on the Order Form.
- Incubation is not an
exact science and even though customers are given a scheduled
(anticipated) hatch date they should be ready to receive their chicks
before or after that date. I just can’t send chicks that I
don’t have. If your order can’t be filled by the end
of our hatching season you will be placed on next year’s list or
given a refund, if requested
- Your chicks will be
shipped to your local Post Office – not your home. Chicks
are usually shipped on Tuesday afternoons and your local Post Office
should call you to pick up your chicks as soon as they arrive. If
possible please provide two phone numbers on the Order Form, so the Post
Office will have a backup number to contact you.
- Please take a camera
with you when you go to pickup your chicks. Open the box of chicks
at the post office to inspect them with the postal clerk. If any are
dead, above the number ordered, you must notify me within 24 hours and
include a photo of the birds in the box to receive a refund for the
price of each DOA.
- By law chicks can be
sent to most Zip code locations in the US only. Canadian customers
may have them sent to a US post office near the border and drive over to
pick them up there or Ontario residents may pickup their chicks at
ChickHatchery.com in Birch Run, Michigan. Extra costs for required
import papers and other fees are listed on the order form. Orders
for Canada may be for 25, 50, 75 or 100 chicks.
- If enough chicks
don’t hatch of a breed and variety that you order, chicks of other
varieties of equal or greater value will be substituted (up to 30%) to
fill your order. Please feel free to indicate some of your other
choices under the “Comments” section of the Order
Form. Here is the place to let me know what you really want the
most.
- “Hatchery
Choice” means you choose the breed, but I choose the variety.
One or more varieties may be included of the varieties I breed, even if
they are “sold-out”.
- Don’t count your
chicks before they hatch literally means guarantees cannot be
made. Decades of selective breeding are behind most of the breeds
and varieties offered, but unwanted characteristics may show up.
- ChickHatchery.com
reserves the discretionary right to refuse any order.
- Shipment is based on the
ability and willingness of the US post office to accept day-old chicks.
- Prices, conditions &
varieties offered are subject to change without notice.
- Please read the FAQ page for more information, before placing an
order.
- Please post your general
questions about poultry on one of the many poultry forums. Several
are listed on the Links page.
